I really don't want it to pass period... if its passed... then everything will be gone from the internet... including facebook, Youtube, google, and many others will be gone for good... (something like that...) I'm repeating myself I know, but I REALLY don't want it to pass...

Hmm I'm not sure I fully understand the bill myself but from what I've read/heard about it, I'd rather it not be passed as it would censor parts of the internet and harm many sites. Hence my vote for not passing it. However I wasn't aware that a successful pass of the bill would cripple several of the most visited sites in the world....somehow I find it hard to see the government facilitating the fall of google. (how would anyone find stuff?? ;D) Although I have heard talk of youtbe possibly being hit with more severe effects....

I would normally not care since this is an American bill but i have watched a few videos and the fact that Youtube, Google, Facebook and even the download site admin uses to distrubute his games could be shut down is the reason why i am heavily against it and have tried to sign petitions (but i cannot since i am Canadian and my Postal code does not work.)

Yes, I don't understand it either. Though, if it's the U.S Congress that came up with the bills, is everyone effected? You see, I don't live in the U.S. I'm Canadain :3 Like Blackbolt. But... It would affect some people who I really enjoy talking with that are U.S citizens and I wouldn't want to lose talking to them.

I do not like how a U.S. Law could change the internet for everyone, i think no country should have the power the U.S has right now and it will eventually lead to its downfall.

The U.S. bill does not directly affect people in other countries, however it forces the website to be taken down in the U.S. if just one "pirated" link/video i found on the site (imagine how many are on youtube lol), and many sites like facebook, youtube, google etc. are U.S. based. So by extension it affects people out of the country indirectly if the sites get shut down For a laugh search something along the lines of "herpderpedia" on twitter/google ;p

I was watching CNN at the gym and people tweeted that U.S. is becoming more and more like Communist Russia(Caferty File or something), while i do not agree with that i think that they are trying to reduce freedom of information to its citizens and in this case to everyone around the world (weather that is intentional only they know).

Guys, you are ALL being duped by the internet. :\ They're not telling you the full story. Here's how it works. If the owner/secretary of a company sees a website using/selling/giving away their products illegally, they can shut the website down. HOWEVER, For places like YouTube, the whole place isn't devoted to illegally selling/giving away stuff. If a company finds someone's video illgeally using their product, YouTube has to delete the VIDEO. Not the whole website. Next, not just any random person can just say, "Oh their using this product illgeally! Shut down the website!" It doesn't work like that. Only the company who produces it can do this, and they have to go through the CCO to actually have it shut down. So people can just run around randomly shutting down stuff. Two: For places like dA, (devianART) only the artwork, like videos on YouTube, would be deleted. Not the entire site. Three: For forums and such, if one member post something illegally, as in posting art and claiming it as your own, would not shut down the whole site. Just the post would have to be removed and the member suspended/maybe banned. So Google and Firefox and browsers like that are not falling and shutting down. Why are they protesting then? Because, if a website is found illegally selling/giving away/showing products, they have to take it down. NO, browsers and search engines aren't shutting down because of a few websites. Anyways, they're protesting because they don't want to keep up with it all. Because there's the hassle of deleting the website, and watching to make sure it doesn't just re-make itself under another name. They just don't want to do it. So they're making all these protest and notices and stuff, but only telling half the story, only the parts that will make them look good and stuff and SOPA & PIPA bad. So, the only sites shut down would be sites that's main purpose is to sell/give away/show illegal products. Don't believe me? Read your Newspaper. Do NOT look it up on the internet.

So, the only sites shut down would be sites that's main purpose is to sell/give away/show illegal products. Don't believe me? Read your Newspaper. Do NOT look it up on the internet. Youtube would be taken down if a certain number of these violations occur, as well as people getting arrested unjustly. For example if i was a U.S. citizen and i posted a video with a certain music and then the record label revoked my right to put the video up, then lets say Youtube had a certain number of violations, i would be arrested and Youtube would be shut down. In order to get the whole story you must read all sources you are heavily one-sided in saying the newspaper tells the whole story when in fact they tell only half (and i would be one sided if i said the internet tells the whole story). When you piece all the sources together you will get the true meaning behind Sopa, Pipa, and ACTA and find out why they are perilous laws Also just a bit of schooling for you, why on earth would Google be against Sopa, Pipa and ACTA if it did not affect them in any way!? (They have a petition against it that i attempted to sign but was turned away due to me not being an American citizen) You have been told only half the story and you are not open minded enough to see the full story, if ACTA gets in motion (already signed here in Canada) i will be on of the first to go to Parlimant hill and demand that it be stopped and i am sure many others will join with me. (Primeminister Harper is already having second thoughts due to the outrage this has caused)

HOWEVER, For places like YouTube, the whole place isn't devoted to illegally selling/giving away stuff." It's not just "illegal selling/giving away stuff." There is plagiarism, lyrical copyrights, image copyrights, and so on. VEVO is already the YouTube music police as it is, and of course there are many others. It's called self-management. If something is found on a site deemed to be infringing copyright, it is the site's responsiblity to remove that. While yes, a person may file a claim or suit for the material to be removed, its not the government's place to remove it first. In most cases, it should go like this: Site>>Organization>Federal involvement ..if federal involvement even needs to happen. Generally it stops at either site or at an organization level. There is no need for federal moderation in this piracy war. It is not up to the government, but the sites themselves to monitor the content the users put on their site. There are many other things the government needs to worry about now besides piracy. The sites can fend for themselves. End of story.
