So I came across these maps while doing some research. They show how Americans speak differently , pronouncing words differently or having a different word for the same thing. I thought I'd share them and get some opinions .~
Personally , being born and raised in Texas i could rant about this thing for hoooooooouurrrrs (especially when the word "pop" is said instead of "coke" ITS COKE.*stops ranting before I go off on the Northern words Crayfish and PaJAMas ) Im gonna give a little mini rant on each one id love to hear in comments what you say/your opinions on it.
*the point where I get VERY opinionated* 1.Now this ones probably on of the deepest dividing line between the South and the Northern Yankees (sorry west) , ill say "You guys", sometimes if I'm addressing different people but 90% of the time its gonna be y'all. 2.I honestly can fathom the thought of "been" pronounced any differently 3.Its CARMEL. *saves rant for later* 4.
It drives me INSANE when Northerners say "Crayfish" Lord Crayfish sounds ridiculous. I typically say "Crawfish" and "Crawdad" (Though going down to Waco Texas they will say Crawdad(dy) not Crawfish) 5. Now this one is more understandable , Jim Bowie played a major role in the Texas revolution so of course we know how to say it right. But it still drives me up the wall hearing "Bo-we knife!" 6.This one infuriates me more than anything. Its in no way PEE-CAN. You don't pee in cans. If anyone near me says "Pe-can" anyone in my family will turn around and go "PUH-CAUN!" 7.I never knew there was a different word for coleslaw 8. Gross people actually pronounce it "may uh naze? " *shivers*, what the heck San Antonio / Austin?? Your ruining it for the rest of us. Bless YOUR heart. 9.jam it the Yankees are at it again.. (Ha!) Louisiana why? That jam vowel creeps me out. 10. I have easily 15 more of these but ill post them tomorrow . so what do you say?

Pop vs Coke. If you live in a community like mine you'd know exactly why people ask for some pop or soda instead of saying coke.

I like how number 5 is just Texas....and itty-bitty Maryland lol. Being from Texas as well, I thoroughly agree with all your commentary, Snow.
However...when it comes to Bowie Knife, I've never heard it pronounced aloud by anyone. So when I read it in my head, I don't pronounce it as "boo-wie" or "boe-wie". It's more like "bow-ie", with the same ow sound as in "wow"
INTERESTING FACT ON COKE VS POP The term "coke" existed long before Coca-Cola came around and stole the term for their own usage. Yanks often get confused by Southies using this term, wondering how people don't get confused by when you want a coke and when you want a Coca-Cola. Simple! When you want a Coca-Cola, you say, "I'd like a Cocoa-Cola." Wow! Very easy. Some also shorten it to just cola. Thus, when the waiter asks, "What sort of coke do you want?" You reply with what soda you want-- not what kind of cola.
I have a semi-Yank dad so sometimes I call it soda.

If you don't mind me asking , what city are you from? you've never heard anyone say it before? I guess I learned because a street close to mine has bowie in its name and I learned how to correctly say it when I was talking about it (or more like my mother yelled at me if I pronounced it the northern way lol) LOL "Semi yank" Updated with a few more *infuriating* maps

snowfeather: Was raised in Dallas for most my life but moved to Austin a few years back (help there's so many Californian wannabes here) Semi-yank because his parents are yankees, but he grew up all over the U.S. because his dad's job in the airforce. He spent the most time in Tuscon AZ (4 years I think) before his family settled in Round Rock TX when he started highschool. He went to college here too. So he was raised by yanks but he lived in the south for a good chunk of his life.
Pee-can is what my great-grandmother kept underneath the bed. Puh-khans are a nut.
I find it interesting on the soda/pop/coke one how there's random concentrations of "soda" in some areas, lol.

I find these sorts of things amusing, because whenever I take these sorts of tests, I always get a different result. That's what comes of moving so often and reading so much, I guess. XD

Austin. Austin's getting to be so Non-Texans. I went down there for a little while a few months ago and it looked like I was in a different state. (Mostly because of the people walking around. Yes. Theres PLENTLY of those lol) Austin's the best for parties though. Geez you have a lot of traffic too You must of had the craziest weather in Dallas . Ive lived in Forth Worth my whole life and we could have the absolute worst storm heading towards us but somehow Dallas always got the front end of it. Everytime. *gasp* Airforce?? Is he a Pilot? (I have a big thing for planes and just military in general) Lawl, Pee-can. Silly Yankees. Especially in California. Its weird how Texas splits at coke and soda. I love explaining to non-Texans how hot it gets here. Im in California for the summer and a friend of mine asked me how hot it gets. She didn't believe me when I told her it gets hot enough you could bake cookies on the dash of your car or scramble an egg on the sidewalk . My brother living in California thinks 85 is hot. HA. It was 110 in DFW just today .

Tourists think that the best time to come to Utah is during the winter. They wear coat after coat, boots, and snow pants just so they can sight see. People in Utah are wearing a light jacket, jeans, and sneakers (people also wear sandals and flip-flops to). You go to Arkansas and I'm not used to humidity. I'm always the first person in the creek (I jumped out of the Pioneer just to get in the creek.. I was hot ok?).

My grandfather was a pilot, yes.
Earlier this month, I was wondering what the weather would be like for the week so I checked my phone. It said 102 all week, not joking. That's considered a little on the cool side for August.
I love the humidity, it's really great for the skin and is way more bearable than dry heat.
