Wanted to try this.
Ask me any question about Texas. Can be something random, or you could ask if a stereotype is true, etc., anything!

Whitedove: Newbie. Or at least, to me. To answer your question, YES. That rumor is absolutely true. We love BBQ, we love to cook BBQ, and that's because Texas has the best. Which probably sounds bias and us just being prideful, but ask any outsider who's had Texas BBQ and they'll tell you the truth. @fox: Heck yeah! That saying is for a reason. Like we went pumpkin diving the other day to get carving pumpkins for halloween, and we had a choice pick between 8 huge pumpkins. If you put both arms around them, they'd barely touch fingertips. @willow: You remember that? //blinks// Well, my mum use to be a "Master Gardener", which was basically a club for really smart gardeners. Naturally, my mom knows a lot about plants. We had this patio with flagstone by our pool, and purslane use to grow through the cracks. At first we just pulled it up, but then my mom pointed out it was actually an edible plant. It's actually kinda tasty, it's got this slightly nutty, lettuce flavor. So I ate some and after liking the taste, kept eating it. There's not really any down here in Austin, though. Unfortunately. So I eat turkscap flowers instead (neighbors look at me weirdly, idk why).

Well DUH. Texas is about as southern as you can get, right there with Louisiana (whom we share a mutual respect with). So yeah, we've got a southern accent. HOWEVER...it does depend on your definition of "southern accent". If you mean redneck/country hillbilly talk, then absolutely not. I've heard very few people talk like that. And most southern accents don't sound like Paula Dean's, either. It's not super noticeable like you would expect; you notice it, but it's not like a brick wall in your face. More notably Texas accents are like this deep, brass burr, and we pronounce stuff a bit differently.

Are there a lot of cattle ranches still?

Indeed! Not so much in the city, but in between, 50% of the land along the highway is cattle pastures (the other half being farmland). We don't really have many dairy cows like up north, so most of our cows are bred for meat. Texas has some of the best angus in the US.

That's a stereotype question I expect sooner or later.
It really depends where you live in Texas. See, up in Amarillo, they get LOTS of snow. (For those who don't know, Amarillo is in the pan handle). Like up to two feet. When I lived in Dallas, we got some occasionally, usually once a winter (or twice a winter if we were lucky). There, it was usually never deeper than a few inches. But a few years ago, we had a white christmas (aka that-never-happens-in-texas)it was nearly 9 inches (unheard of). However, since I moved to Austin, I haven't seen any snow (granted, we've only been here for one winter). Although I know they've gotten some before.
So, in answer to your question, yes, I have, and it's not nearly as uncommon as people think. The problem isn't that it doesn't get cold enough (because it does), it's just a matter of those coldest days crossing with a rainy ones. And Texas is pretty dry.

Interesting, because I lived in Georgia for four years, and we saw snow exactly once, and it was less than an inch. Kinda surprising Texas gets that much snow.

We got lots of hail.
But yeah, like I said, depends where you live and just how cold/wet the winter is. Sometimes we'll have snowless winters, once we had it snow four times.

snowfeather: They get snow further up, like the northern most side, but most of California never gets any.
And really? Nothing. I love Texas, and yeah, I'm proud to be a Texan. If there's one stereotype that's true, its Texas Pride. But seriously, I can't think of anything. Besides people like Wendy Davis that just embarrass us >_>
