Hey, while I was rereading Sign of the Moon, I realized that Rock said that he was the first Stoneteller, but Jayfeather appointed Half Moon as the first Stoneteller. So does this mean that 1.Half Moon is Rock. (Me *shivers*)Half Moon is actually male and got shaved by a Twoleg so he's furless, and the shaving thing slipped while the Twoleg shaved him and made him blind. 3.Erin Hunter's mistake. 4.I'm crazy.

Actually, Rock wasn't the first 'teller. He was one of them. But he didn't say he was the first. Half Moon was the first. But yes, you are crazy. Lol, jk ^_^

Hmmmm? I checked the book and on page 180, last sentence Rock said, "I was the very first Stoneteller, though my legacy was long forgotten by the time my kin left here to find the lake."

hmm well maybe, just maybe he was the first leader of the cats before they became the tribe and therefore took the name of stoneteller after he died even though he was not alive when that title became present.

I think it was yet another mistake made by the Erins. You have to think, when you have that many characters and that many books, you're going to get confused once in a while.

Well, wouldn't his name be StoneTeller if so? Maybe your right. Maybe BlackBolt's right, maybe he was a leader like Furled Bracken?

Maybe... That seems most likely.

Listen, this is what happened:
Rock told Jayfeather that before the Ancients had lived at the lake, their ancestors lived in the mountains. He was the first of the ancestors of the Ancients stone tellers, though he may have taken the name posthumously if the tradition for after he died, maybe he just prefers to call himself by his birth name, or maybe the ancestors of the Ancients never called those of his position stoneteller even if the position was the same. It was probably the last option.
Half Moon did become the first Stoneteller of a new generation of the tribe. She may also have been the first stoneteller to have the title/name of stoneteller, or maybe in the ancestors of the Ancient’s time it was just a title, not a name.
But the fact is, that Rock was the first stone teller of his time and generation, and Half Moon the first of hers.

I think it can get confusing though because eventually they are all referred to as "Stoneteller" by their tribe, yes?

Perhaps they did forget about him. That would be really odd, though, considering current warriors know tales about their ancestors and the like.

I don't think so, at the end of Sign of the Moon, Jayfeather still refers to Half Moon as Half Moon, not Stoneteller. Yeah, but Jayfeather never knew her as Stoneteller, but as Half Moon. Anyway It would be too confusing if he mentioned her later as Stoneteller. And I think that it’s not unlikely that Rock was forgotten, especially if he did take the name Teller of the Pointed Stones because a lot of the Stoneteller’s would probably blend together in cat’s memories. But maybe when the first tribe (as in the ancestors of the Ancients) left the mountains, they might have tried to put their past behind them because of whatever possibly traumatic event caused them to leave. Anyway though, we have no proof that he was forgotten because we were never with the Tribe of Rushing Water long enough to hear any of the legends and stories. They might have mixed the truth up a bit (o a lot) or they could have a very true story/stories of Rock. There just isn’t sufficient evidence.
