This has really been bothering me for a while. In the books, when a cat become leader, they get 9 lives. Nine cats from StarClan each give him/her a life. But the thing is, the soon-to-be leader ALREADY has one life. So if the nine cats give the leader nine lives, wouldn't the leader have 10 lives? Does a life from a StarClan cat replace the life they had already? What do you think?

Good question, I believe that they take away the old life to replace the new lives that the leader gets. Idk, just a thought.

My friend, everything about warriors is confusing - exept for the parts that are not confusing. I know, confusing, right? xP

The oldlife is stripped away, and the nine new lives are added. I think?

But that seems a bit unnecessary because you are dieing then getting your lives why not just get it replaced.

Yea pretty sure it's replaced. Although if the previous leader is still alive, you either don't get lives (Nightstar), or get lesser amount depending on how many they have left (Sunstar). Right?

Right? well if a leader steps down i think they get 8 lives instead of 9 for example Pinestar who became a rogue i think sunstar his succesor only got 8 lives

Here's my theory - The first cat of the nine adds the life that they're given to the new leaders old life. That way, the life is added on.

In the books (I think it's when Firestar gets his nine lives) he is given 9 new lives, erasing his old life. Confusing, right?

Erin Hunter says from FAQ's:
"Fans ask me this question a lot. When a leader receives their nine lives, their old life is replaced and . . . . they receive their nine lives."

The old life is stripped away. The cat will go still, and appear dead for a few moments. Then the new 9 lives are given.
