I've read most of the books you listed. They're all very good, (but you probably knew that already) highly recommend them to anyone who hasn't read them. I think the only one I haven't read is Redwall.

... what is your book about? ... I can't divulge too much, but I can tell you this. It's technically a fantasy book. The main character, Katie Macraith, is a normal near-16 year old girl from Amarillo Texas. But somehow she ends up transported to another world. Let's call it an alternate world. This world is similar to our own, except for one big difference: the year is only the 15th century. There are a few other differences, such as their timeline doesn't match up to ours, there are a few creatures that are unique to there (but not mythical or anything). The main character joins a band of eight other kids, four of whom are also from her own world but all came in at different times (the oldest, Tony, has been there for four years). The reason I use the term "fantasy" loosely is because there's really no mythical or magic stuff in it. The only fantasy part is the alternate world thing. So anyways, ragtag bunch of teens (oldest is 18, youngest 12) against the world as they rebel against your classic evil royal family. Although I think I have a good plot twist for that so it's not too cliche.
Few people here might remember me making a thread awhile back asking about what you guys thought of a list of names I posted. That was for my book. I'll tease the names of the main characters. Katherine Anne Macraith (Texan, 15/16) Nicholas William MacQuoid (Scottish, 16) Anthony [Tony] Joseph Whitfield (Australian, 18) John Edward Wright (Arkansas, 16) Revinus Fellobough (AW, 15) [Male] Marcus James White (Alberta, 14) Salux Jasklis (AW, 12) [Male] Kariska Restiel (AW, 13) [Female] Navaen ka'Mortir (AW, 17) [Female]
AW means "Alternate World", aka they're from there. For the characters that crossed over, I didn't want them all to be from America. That'd be boring and unrealistic, so I pulled a few from around the world. Scotland, Australia, two from America, one from Canada. I also didn't want the band to be perfectly even when it game to genders, since that'd kind of be a bit too ideal. Plus I find guys more fun to write. I'm doing my best to mix up personalities, too, so there's the serious one, the goofballs, the pessimists, the optimists, the strategists, the thieves, etc. Also left plenty of room for personal histories to be discovered. I feel a bad, though, because it wasn't until I had clearly envisioned and written down the character sheets for them all that I realized there's like no diversity between all nine of them, and I don't want to come off as racist or anything. But I've already clearly imagined all the characters and to change them now would mess everything up in my head, so I'll have to make up for it in minor characters.
The book is gonna be part of a larger series. I'm thinking 3-4 books, but it's still early to say. I haven't done any of the actual writing. I've been thinking about this book for nearly a full year now, but it wasn't until April I started writing it down. All my past "books" have failed, because I was making it up as I went along so I got writer's block and they never carried on past chapter 4 or 5. This time, I promised myself I'd make an outline for the book first, which I'm glad I'm doing that. It isn't done, but soon it will be and then can start writing.
My teachers all say I've got an engaging writing style, and I have good grammar, so we'll see. My writing has definitely improved since my "Secrets of the Shadowslayer" fanfiction, xD
Dawnsky: If you liked those books, you'll like redwall too. They're very well written, and all the books are separate adventures so you don't have to read them in chronological order (although it's better to)
Whitedove: Haha, I just mean I can be a bit unnerving sometimes. I grew up watching my older brothers play games like Half Life, Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto, etc. So gore and disturbing violence really don't effect me, and sometimes I forget it does effect others.

Yeah, I've been meaning to read Redwall, but I have a ton of things to read so it's going to be a while.

Good luck with your book. Eight characters equals a lot of characterization; good luck with that.

Nine characters, actually. But I'm pretty confident.

Lol, I can't count.
Oh yeah, there's the evil royal family too, which might warrant a lot or a little description depending on your plot.

A lot. Don't worry, I've got it all planned out. This isn't just a bunch of evil folksies wanting to take over the world. There's a family feud, for instance, grudges, revenge, questioning, and acceptance. They won't just be background characters, although you don't learn much about them in the first book. The queen is dead. The King's name is Terrok, and he has three sons named Cronvik, Illvaro, and Axagard, and a daughter named Sarrial.
The main characters start out as just a ragtag group of teenaged rebels, but after awhile it grows personal on both sides.
The POV also shifts throughout the books. Although it mainly follows Katie's, there will be a few chapters for each characters in the series. For instance, Nick gets quite a few devoted to his POV in this book, as do John and Marcus, because there are some specific scenes for them. The next books will include chapters from the rest of the character's views, too.
Back to the "royal family", they live in a castle/palace called "Girithdihar" (gir-rith-dih-hahr) in a city called Vazaela. I doubt I need to say this, but Terrok is a tyrant. He's fighting a war (haven't quite decided who or where, but I've got time), so he made it law that boys and girls of the age of 12 are drafted and must serve under the punishment of death. Salux in particular ran away for this reason, so he wouldn't be drafted.
