Mudsplash followed Cheetahfur, listening intently. He had been wondering the same things.

"Survive?" The word seemed to fall from his lips as if he didn't know what that meant. "Well I tell ya what, I've been escapin' badgers n' foxes all my life and they ain't never catch me either. 'Cept one time when a fox bit off half of my tail." He said, motioning with his tail to show them. "'Course they can be seen deeper within the forest though. I think you all just worry too-" A loud CCcrrraaaack! noise had sounded from below and all of a sudden the ground beneath them had seem to rumble. Jadevine tried to jump back on instinct but all of his legs were caught on something... moving. "Waaaaaaaaghhhhhhh!"
Mistpaw's legs were caught too. He tried his hardest to push out but the more force he used, the more he was sinking down. He reached out with his front paws which were then wrapped tightly by hidden vines that had a mind of its own. His heart started beating rapidly, and he could see things even more clearly now, the fog had finally lifted from where they were and he could make out a tiny pond next to a cave in a distance. That must be where Jadevine's den is! But... I might not be able to... From afar, he could also see the right path that they didn't take which led directly towards the pond. I knew it! "Foxdung!" He spat.
A huge circle of quicksand had engulfed the sand and snow that was once on the surface and now it was rapidly beginning to consume Mudsplash, Cheetahfur, Jadevine, and Mistpaw. Vines had entangled each of their feet and their front paws and it was now growing over their bodies. There was no hope of escape now, or at least that's how it appeared. Long whips of green held them all hostage and threatened them with a quick sandy death.
Mistpaw started to wish that he stayed in HeavenClan. "Heeeeeeelpp!!!!" He cried out. He never sounded this desperate for help before.
Jadevine seemed to have gone unconscious and was being gently tugged into a sea of sand.
It was useless now, Mistpaw couldn't even use his arms or legs to save him or his friends. They went searching for Goldrose, a plant that would revive a cat's life, but now they were about to lose theirs.

Cheetahfur tried to think quickly of a solution. if they tried to wrestle free of the vines, they would fall into the quicksand. wait, maybe there was an unusual solution. the forest itself didn't make sense, so maybe the answer didn't make sense either! it seemed that Jadevine had gone unconscious. maybe the solution was in the vines... "umm excuse me. living vines? We'd appreciate it if you could just drop us off over there by that den. thanks." she purred politely. Great. Just great. now she was talking to plants.

Mudsplash tried to remain calm, though it was difficult, especially when he heard Cheetahfur talking to plants. Had she gone insane? Then he had an idea. They couldn't get free of the vines, so how about they tried to climb up them and get on stable ground? He immediately started clawing at the vines, trying to get a grip. "Try to climb up the vines, everybody!" he yowled.

(XD)
The vines seemed to loosen their grip at Cheetahfur's polite words but still did not let go. However, the quicksand wasn't very pleased by her, and it opened up even wider underneath her paws.
Mistpaw followed Mudsplash's instructions and gnawed off a few strands of vine that were on his paws. He slowly pulled himself up with the sand still dragging beneath his hindpaws.
The sand had finally released Mudsplash from its pull. Mudsplash was now on solid ground but one lone vine was still wrapped around his front paw, offended at him for clawing at its fellow vines.
Mistpaw glanced over at Jadevine- no, was that really Jadevine? In the sand where he thought Jadevine was, there were two cats, a brown tom- Jadevine, and a tortoiseshell cat who he couldn't determine the gender of from such a distance. Jadevine seemed to be trying to drag out the cat from the sandy pit, but the vines had entangled them both.
"Darn vines, y' ain't gettin' hold o' me or anyone! Grrrr..." Jadevine struggled.

(hey. I don't want your judgment. I'm doing what works and talking to plants apparently works. )
Cheetahfur felt the vines loosen and she felt relieved that they weren't evil, although the angry vibes the quicksand was giving off wasn't comforting at all. seeing that everything around her seemed to have emotions and thoughts, she didn't want to offend anything. especially not the plants, since they were the only thing that kept her from dying. she noticed that Mudsplash was giving her a funny look, and didn't blame him. but it was working, kind of. she continued to talk to the plants in a calm, respective tone, hoping they could loosen even more and allow her to climb to safety. even lift Mistpaw, Jadevine and the mystery cat out of the sand. "I really don't want to be eaten by angry quicksand. I'm sorry about Mistpaw's and Mudsplash's claws, and Jadevine's rude language. they mean nothing bad by it, they just don't want to drown in sand. we're on an expedition, see? just looking around, discovering new things. so, can you please help us?"

(I'm not judging you, Mudsplash is. I think it's a good idea.) Since what Cheetahfur was doing seemed to be working, Mudsplash decided to try it. "Um, sorry I clawed you," he said, feeling a little stupid. "I panicked, I was just trying to get out of the quicksand. Thanks for helping me get out. Would you please let us go now?"

(Actually Cheetahfur, that's impossible. Mudsplash has Eagle Eyes. ) The vines loosened their grip on Cheetahfur and let go of her. They stopped for a while as if they were thinking, and then they picked up Cheetahfur out of the quicksand and placed her gently on solid ground. They had made a new friend. The vine attached to Mudsplash's paw had also let go and went to pick up Mistpaw out of the sand. Mistpaw looked over at Jadevine and the mysterious cat. Neither the vines nor the quicksand seemed to forgive him, but the quicksand seemed to be really grumpy, even to Mudsplash, Cheetahfur, and himself. "Maybe the quicksand is hungry? Jadevine spat at the vines. "Y'll n'er ge' an 'pology from me, ya foxdung!" He looked like he could collapse any moment. Even though he looked so skinny, he was able to push himself and the other cat in an attempt to escape out of the sandy pit.

(well, obviously she cant see EVERYTHING around her, but what she can see are the vines and the quick sand. those seem to be alive. especially the vines.)
"thank you so much." Cheetahfur said to the vines. she turned her head to look at Jadevine and the mystery cat. suddenly, the medicine cat side of her came out, and she gave him her 'you need to help yourself, cause I'm not doing it' attitude. "Your pride and stubbornness isn't getting you out of that quicksand, Jadevine. I apologized for you, but I think these nice plants want to hear you say it yourself. and at least sound like you mean it. I don't want you to be eaten, but I cant beg them for this and that, and I feel like I've asked enough of them already. either you convince them to help you and your new friend, or your both lunch." she sassed, "oh, and your insults aren't exactly helping either."
"You might be right, but I don't have anything to feed to it, and I sincerely hope Jadevine's pride doesn't get him and the other cat killed. I'm really curious who that other cat is." She turned and whispered to Mistpaw.

(hey. I don't want your judgment. I'm doing what works and talking to plants apparently works. ) I was joking, because you said "I don't want your judgment," so I said Mudsplash has Eagle eyes.

Mudsplash looked on desperately. While he was fairly certain of the way out, he wasn't positive. If Jadevine died, they might never get out. And he had taken a liking to Jadevine. He didn't want to see him die. "Jadevine," he called. "Please just apologize. You just made a mistake, and if you admit it we'll probably all be fine."

With one last sigh, Jadevine stopped struggling and thought about it. If he continued to insult it, he would probably get himself and this helpless stranger killed. He looked straight at the vines. "Okay... I guess I'm sorry for what I've done. Please... just spare us, we're tired and hungry. I don't want anyone to die, can't you see from our perspective?" The vines had begun to loosen and seemed a little satisfied. They picked up the mystery cat and placed them on solid ground while Jadevine was roughly tossed on the ground. "Ya foxdung..." The vines turned around. "Okay, okay, I didn't mean that." Everything was returning back to the ground.
Mistpaw wasn't very pleased with how Jadevine acted, but he was more concerned about the stranger he brought out of the sand. With closer inspection, he saw that it was a tom, a cat who had rapid shallow breathing and was unconscious. "This cat doesn't look very good, Cheetahfur, can you help him somehow? HeavenClan knows how long he might have been trapped under that sand."
Jadevine said nothing, but he was examining the cat with wide round eyes. Something had scared him.

Mudsplash noticed this and addressed it immediately. "What's wrong, Jadevine? Do you know this cat?"

Cheetahfur sighed, relieved that Jadevine had apologized. Mistpaw then drew her attention to the unconscious tom laying on the ground. "I don't know, but I'll try my best. he couldn't have been under there for very long, or he'd be dead." she said, inspecting the cat carefully. "I think we should get to shelter first, before something else jumps at us. then we can talk in peace. Mudsplash, will you help me carry him? I'm sure Jadevine is tired enough from saving him."

"Th- my-....it can't be...." Jadevine stammered and kept his gaze focused on the body. "No... no no no no no..." He tried to look up at Mudsplash to reply, but tears were already welling up in the corner of his eyes. He looked back down. "His name is..." His words were interrupted with a small *hic* "Sagewish... He's the friend I been tellin' ya about a lil while ago. And now I finally get to see him again, but in this condition! It's been so long." He cleared his throat and his eyes became clear again. "But I reckon we ought to take him back to our den like-" He paused. He never asked them what their names were. "Uhh... what are you fellahs names again?"
"I'm Mistpaw!" Mistpaw mewed happily, but he didn't want to spend too much time on introduction when they should be heading towards the den. "Hey Cheetahfur, do you think those vines would take us across the river over to Jadevine's den? After all, the vines seem to be your friend."

"Sure, Cheetahfur," Mudsplash said. He carefully hoisted Sagewish on his back.

"I could ask them." Cheetahfur replied. she turned and walked up to a vine that was lying on the ground. "excuse me. I'm so sorry to bother you, but would you and your fellow vines mind carrying us across the river over there? or show us a safe way to get across?" she asked politely. "I have to try to save that cat Mudsplash is carrying."

The vines inched a few tail-lengths off the ground toward Cheetahfur and the others. With a sudden jolt, the vines had started to sink into the ground- the quicksand was now swallowing it in, as if it were its own tongue.
Mistpaw shook his head in dismay. "What's wrong quicksand? Are you hungry?" He felt a little awkward talking to the sand.
With a few sputters and chunks of sand flying in the air, there appeared to be something gray coming out of the sand. With a final push, the sand regurgitated the large gray ball of fur out of it's mouth and onto solid ground. It started to snarl at the cats around, with its teeth bared. It was a large badger furious with anger, Mistpaw was sure he could feel heat coming from its body. The quick sand was starting to become solid again, returning to the way it was when they first came.
"Ooohhhh, so the sand wasn't hungry, it just had indigestion!"
The badger wiped away the sand from it's eyes and glared at Mudsplash and Sagewish. It snarled loud enough- ChaosClan could probably hear it- and lunged toward Mudsplash in a flash of teeth and sharp claws.
"Look out Mudsplash!" Mistpaw shouted in terror, his pupils dilated.
Jadevine watched, too shocked to move.

Mudsplash knew he couldn't doge quickly enough, not with Sagewish on his back. So instead, he rose into the air just out of reach of the badger's claws. He didn't dare to take a swipe at it; he was already having a hard time keeping Sagewish on his back. He looked around for a place that he could safely deposit Sadgewish, out of reach of the badger.

(Oh. My. God. I am so blonde! XD)
Cheetahfur saw Mudsplash rise into the air when suddenly, it dawned on her. she slapped her face with her forepaw. how could she have possibly forgotten. she felt so stupid. so incredibly stupid. they could fly! they didn't need the vines to carry them over the river. they just had to rise, move across the river, then descend to dry land on the other side. it was so incredibly simple. and since Jadevine was from Heavenclan, then he should be able to do it too. Cheetahfur rose into the air feeling (as was mentioned before) like a complete and utter moron.
