They don't play and hunt the same way, i have seen them stalk birds and other various animals. Completely different though i agree it is because they are hunters by instinct (they come running every time i jingle my keys though because they know that is the source of the light.). Independant and social can co-exist, my cat Varmy meows often and is very social. (though he usually wants food or attention). Independant and dependant cannot.
Also i do not know why i was talking in parentheses.

there's they deistic personalities- my dog Ginger is pretty independent, never has been one of those dogs that asks to be pet. I mean you can pet her, but if she's laying down after awhile she tries to paw your away xD But yeah, by nature dogs are pack animals while cats prefer to go alone. Of course, that doesn't mean they can't form bonds with each other, but they don't usually get lonely (unless they're really tamed). Cats are also more wild by nature- if humans were wiped from the face of the earth, as far as domestic animals go cats would be the first to re-adapt and return to the wild.
My dog's killed plenty of small animals before- Brittany Spaniels (her breed) are hunting dogs. Rabbits, squirrels, even birds have been caught by her.

Well you have had lots of time with cats, most of the time I've spent with cats are at the shelters (mable got adopted :/) Most of the time they will play for a while then curl back up in their bed I've really never met a cat who wanted to play for a long time (that I've been with) just snuggle in your lap (which I don't mind) I've spent more time with dogs and a lot of the time they like to play more
