The private message feature as far as I'm aware is currently global - do you mean that you would like to put it on a setting where only users can message administrators and not moderators? If so, what if they actually need assistance?

I probably won't vote, alas I have been absent from here for a long time and do not know either of you well. That might be deemed as an excuse, but when I've submitted opinions for moderators, I did best on those whom I knew well. These are things you WILL need to know, eventually. Whether you or not you actually make use of this knowledge on this particular forum can vary, given that some of the things I deal with aren't as "severe" or "extreme" here. I will reply with good examples for what to do with the first four once you have both answered. I hope with what further questions I have provided from my experiences and past attempts and a final attempt at filling out moderator applications for WolfQuest will aid those who are choosing. (1 How would you determine whether or not someone is using a proxy? 2) How would you determind if someone is using a duplicate account? 3) Do IP addresses determine the true location of an individual? Are they always reliable to use to determine such information? 4) If an IP from a user is from "the same location" as another user but is not the exact IP, is it safe to assume they are the same person? Why or why not? More basic knowledge and scenarios. Please respond with what you would do. 5) A user has an inappropirate signature. What do you do? Note that the user has a clean record and is a good member of the site - a suspension or ban would be too harsh. If you can't get them to remove it, who would you contact to remove or edited the signature for you? 6) Two users are fighting via the chat. 7) Someone claims another user has harassed them via private message. What do you do, and what do you ask for? *Think carefully about this one; likely if you don't you will overlook a few important things. 8) You are not sure whether or not a user has taken a copyrighted work in the poetry board and altered it. 9) A user disagrees with your reason for locking a topic and contacts you via PM. How do you respond? 10 ) You are having a bad day and log on to see an angry user has messaged you due to your disciplinary action towards them on a thread. Some I won't answer because I have to think about it, or that I REALLY do not know. 1) Um... what's a proxy? 2) Most likely they would not be on at the same time. 5) I would ask the administrator to look at it, or if he\she is not available, I would ask a active mod and see what they think about it and ask them to remove it or edit it. 6) Find out what they are arguing about, and if they do not stop when at least 5 people intervene, ask a mod or administrator to see what they can do. 7)I would pm the suspected victim, and ask them what the harasser said. If they rather not share, it would most likely be that the victims harasser knows a big secret that the victim doesn't like to share, or that there wasn't really a harass. If they answer with a unlikely harass, it probably wasn't a real harass. 9) Tell them that it was necessary to lock the thread, and if they really don't want it to be locked, tell them to make a poll to see if other people agree.

@ Blackblot - Exactly. Because of the lack of report features, a user may contact YOU about harassment. They do the same to us and we handle it accordingly.
Chade - (1. A proxy is a tool used to disguise a users IP address so that they remain anonymous on the web. Proxies come in many different forms, but when performing an IP check, typically they are easy to spot. They can be used to bypass a multitude of things, hence why they can be a problem. (2. This is not always the case - we had someone have two duplicate accounts talking to all of us at the same time. Looking to see "whether they are online or not at the same time" can prove to be inaccurate. An IP check in my situation solved the problem. Had the user been using a proxy, it would have been more difficult to pinpoint. (7. It would be best to request from the alledged harassment victim a screenshot of the offending user's PM(s). (via Print Screen on Windows; some other control for Macs) Words are words, and the only way truth can be determined is by concrete proof in this situation.

How do you respond? 10 ) You are having a bad day and log on to see an angry user has messaged you due to your disciplinary action towards them on a thread. Okay, I think I only did 1 and 2 so heres- 3.) Sometimes, Why? Sometimes when i go to my aunts house (aka my cousin sunleafs house,) I go on her computer for a little bit so i could see somethings like that happening where someone would use a friend or families computer to get on where that friend or family member also has there own account. BUT I would get suspicious if threes a constant log in log out rate between 2 or more accounts at the same IP address. 4.) I half an answer for both, Why (as in yes its the same person,) kinda like what i said in 3. and for No, it could be in a best case scenario a open wi-fi area where many people can get into the Internet for free and lots of different people are logging in to the site, or for both IP addresses its the same user name. or mabey i just got confused with my answer cause it is so long. 5.) I would nicely ask them in a PM to please change it/remove it. if I can't get them to change it i would PM Blackbolt or admin about it (if they already don't know about it...) 6.) If its the box in the bottom of the home page of the forms here i would tell them to stop. if they do not a one day suspension will probable occur to the two users (depends on how bad it is though...) 7.) I would send them my e-mail and say please e-mail me a screen shot. 8.) Ask you (koa) if it is a copyrighted poem or not seance you know alot about that kind of stuff. 9.) Hmm...tuff one? well let's see here, I would most likely explain on how the thread was breaking the rules or say why i locked it in the first place. 10.) This one is kinda vag to me so the way it is typed for now i would most likely ignore it altogether.

Willow your vouch has been added. Whoa, hang on a moment. You've been editing my post? Mods are able to edit adminisrators' posts!? Blackbolt, if you can edit this.....put the word "tofu" at the bottom in bold. test says: Tofu?, I'm able to edit Admin's post. Now would be a time I urgently try to contact Frostleaf

Yea I just realized that as well. Now if I can actually contact Frostleaf I'll discover whether this is some setting she forgot to change, or just an inherent flaw in the coding of proboards. Blackbolt and any prospective moderators, please don't take offense at my concern over this issue. I don't mean to suggest I don't trust you. My main concern here is that with the ability to edit my posts you could probably destroy the forum if you so chose. (not saying you ever would Or if your account was to be hacked etc. whoever was in control of it could easily do a huge amount of damage.

There IS a way to change that. You can change it to moderator, global moderator, or admin. Just change one of these functions.
